I happened to watch a fascinating video about JC Leyendecker, a famous and successful commercial artist who made some compelling advertisement pieces that live on to this very day. Though the man himself almost was forgotten, if not for interested historians and those who happened to stumble the few interviews that Charles A Beach (JC's long time lover) had done. As JC's career took a nosedive after the Stock Market crash and people's tastes had changed. Reminders of the Gilded Age in the dark post crash era weren't wanted anymore, photographs and grittier works that reflected the current state of the world were more desired.
I've actually seen a lot of JC's work, but some of it wasn't credited to have been painted by him (a website with poor references). I will probably be getting a book about the life of JC Leyendecker and his long time lover Charles A Beach.
