not an ideal start to the year for many. but hopefully a new album from legendary 70s band Cymande will help.

soft and strong, like a warm blanket. with the kind of positivity - and hope - the world may need in the coming years. this was exactly the sound i needed today.

Saw Soul ll Soul at a free local festival last night. Bit surreal to have Canary Wharf skyscrapers and the Waitrose sign in the background, but the show was great. All good vibes and a very mixed crowd. They covered Nothing Compares 2 U (Sinead tribute) and Ghetto Heaven (by the Family Stand, but it's the Soul ll Soul remix we all know). Here's a video of the latter, as it's an awesome track and I don't do filming at gigs.

Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven (Official Music Video) Remastered

Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven Official Music Video Remastered @Videos80s Genre - Acid jazz, downtempo, soul "Ghetto Heaven" is a 1990 song by the American soul and R&B group The Family Stand. It features vocals by lead-singer Sandra St. Victor and was their debut single, released from their 1989 album Chain. The single became an international hit, peaking at number 10 in the United Kingdom in April 1990. In January 1998, it again charted on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 30. American band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam sampled the song on their 1991 hit, "Let the Beat Hit 'Em". Critical reception Andrew Hamilton from AllMusic commented, "The much ballyhooed "Ghetto Heaven" attempts to capture the power of Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield in social significancy but has the impact of a mosquitoe." Bill Coleman from Billboard stated that "this multitalented outfit stands to win on its own terms this time out with an aggressively funky R&B track of considerable merit." He also described it as "brilliant" and added that "this is music with a message and a groove enhanced by mixes by Jazzie B & Nellee Hooper of Soul II Soul." Greg Sandow from Entertainment Weekly noted it as "a look at how people use love, liquor, and religion to escape the troubles of life". Music & Media wrote, "A hip-hop number with a classic soul vocal. Soul II Soul meets early 70s Tamla Motown with a hint of Chaka Khan. Highly recommended." Music Week put the song at number 5 in their Top 10 list, Pick Of The Year - Dance. Carol Irving from Smash Hits said it is "a brooding, deeply groovy work of genius" and "so brilliant" Support This Channel https://www.patreon.com/Videos80s Follow @Videos80s Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/videos80s/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Videos80s #80smusic #remastered #soulmusic @Videos80s
