On July 5, 2026, Hayabusa2 will conduct a flyby observation of the asteroid Torifune.

During the Torifune flyby, Hayabusa2 will pass the asteroid at a relative speed of about 5 km/s. Since Torifune is estimated to be about 500 meters wide, the spacecraft will pass it in just 0.1 seconds-much faster than a bullet.

A web app created by freelance writer/engineer Makoto Otsuka lets you experience this incredible speed: https://o-tsuka.net/haya2flyby/
