In a plan likely to stir controversy, at least eight of the 15 players per team will have to be those meeting certain conditions, such as being Japanese-born, and on the pitch at the same time during a match, starting from the 2026-27 season. There was a big surprise in this weekend's JRLO matches, with perennial lower half dwellers Shizuoka Blue Revs continuing their push for the semi-finals by handing Saitama Wild Knights their first loss of not only this season, but in the regular season since April 2023 - to the same opponents.

On both occasions, they were then defeated in the Final.

An awesome game from JRLO this weekend between Black Rams and Sungoliath in Tokyo, with TJ Perenara running the show for Black Rams, and a hectic finish.

It's a shame this league doesn't get much exposure or coverage outside of Japan (maybe the upcoming Premier Sports Rugby channel will cover it?).
