A French mountaineer makes his way near the summit of Jannu East, the first ascent of the 7,468 m peak in eastern Nepal.

"The official name of this peak is Kumbhakarna, but the designation Jannu is still better known. It is called Phoktanglungma by the native population, literally "mountain with shoulders" (phoktang means "shoulder" and lungma means "mountain"), in the Limbu language, and is sacred in the yuma religion." .. < https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumbhakarna_Mountain

Took this picture on my trek towards #Kangchenjunga #Pangpema base camp.

East face is lit and the North infamous "Wall of Shadows" is indeed in the shadow. A deep gorge of the Kumbakharna glacier is visible below.

Jannu North Face: interview with Alan Rousseau after Alpine Style ascent with Matt Cornell, Jackson Marvell

"From 7 - 13 October 2023 American alpinists Matt Cornell, Jackson Marvell and Alan Rousseau completed a highly impressive ascent of the North Face of Jannu (7710) in the Nepalese Himalaya. Their "Round Trip Ticket" is 2700m high, breaches technical difficulties up to M7 AI5+ A0, and was climbed in a radically different alpine style compared to the 2004 Russian Direct, with which it shares much terrain and which was established capsule style and with the use of fixed ropes by a determined Russian expedition led by Alexander Odintsov; the summit reached by Alexandre Ruchkin and Dmitry Pavlenko eventually netted the 2004 Piolet d'Or. Success now on this technically difficult outing comes after 2 previous failed attempts, the first by Marvell and Rousseau in 2021, the second by Cornell and Rousseau in 2022"
