We did a lil' trip to Värnamo and #vandalorum as we both felt like seeing some art and eating out. We saw #annedholm paintings -a collection of works under the title Tungan på ordet - the tongue on the word the newest from 2010. We both enjoyed her writings from the process (in a book) referencing the Black Sun and Bataille's work on holes such as the anus or the wound. The paintings didn't really eminate the 'deadness' nor the vibration she seems keen on. They are too graphic and too much in the optics genre. But it was very nice to see the works and the sketches. I was much less keen on Finnish designer Kustaa Saksi and his the #jacquardweaves as the sketches quite sloppy (in my opinion) designs transferred to the digital weaving company who transferred his design to the digital weave. There were too many and none was carrying something unique, they just looked good borrowing patterns from different folkloric designs...no real hand involved. And that's really boring. Then the #brunomathsson design prize 🏆 What struck me was a lack of innovation and a lack of climate concern and a lack of imagination. Some things very well made but lacked something. The food was delicious and all in all we did enjoy it, even though I was longing for something more, something with an edge. Last image is Liam coming out from an air tent that is held up with a fan (part of design prize 🤷🏼. Vandalorum is otherwise an amazing venue in the middle of big roads in småland planning a big garden with the design from Piet Oudolf. Yes the whole thing is extremely white middle to upper class feel. #friday #arts #design
