Police have cleared 30 to 40 people from inside Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall after pro-Palestinian protesters occupied the administration building in New York earlier in the day. The scene unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday as police, wearing helmets and carrying zip ties and riot shields, massed at the Ivy League university’s entrance. Officers breached Hamilton Hall, an administration building on campus, to clear out the structure. The demonstrators had occupied Hamilton Hall more than 12 hours earlier, spreading their reach from an encampment elsewhere on the grounds that’s been there for nearly two weeks. Columbia’s protests earlier this month kicked off demonstrations that now span from California to Massachusetts.
#Israel needs to act smart, and not recklessly attack its enemies. They already have half the world against them due to their calloused, unmeasured attacks on innocent civilians in #Gaza. It serves nobody's interests to engage in knee-jerk assaults on #Iran, despite Iran's recent volley of rockets. Increasing violence isn't going to resolve the conflict, or leave Israelis in peace. Cooler, diplomatic heads must prevail.
Your right to #freeSpeech doesn't mean you're allowed to infringe on other people's speech or expression. If you want to #protest and advocate for #Hamas, knock yourself out. But when you cross the line, and destroy expressions you don't agree with, you're no longer a peaceful protester operating within the bounds of free speech.
