@2legged

I think #isolationism is absolutely undesirable. The opposite, engagement can be both good and bad.

I support constructive engagement. Think the #GFA agreement. Good engagement is necessary, more can be achieved by making friends over the longer term

The negative, think our various adventures in the Gulf. Huge expenditures of blood and money and for what?

I don’t think I can be any clearer. If that is “playing games” and I’m failing to pass some kind of purity test, then so be it

@2legged in the context of my original post, delivered tongue in cheek, Trump has created a new form of #isolationism - meaning he has isolated America from countries considered to be traditional allies

@2legged

#WWII is one hell of an exception and makes the case for an appropriate use of military power and against Lindbergh isolationism

Every case is of course different. It behooves us to be skeptical of those gunning for conflict and disparaging diplomacy.

To my original comment #Trump is increasingly isolating the US from traditional allies it is a new type of #isolationism, perhaps a different use of the word

@2legged

I agree that it is a term of disparagement but not necessarily referring to imperialists or militarists.

For me #isolationism is rooted in those who would prefer America NOT engage in #geopolitics. A case could be made that most such engagements military or otherwise have yielded negative outcomes.

I would point to #WWII and suggest that America’s non-isolationist defeat of #fascism makes a positive case. Opinions may differ 😜

Capping the population at 10 million is a far-right fantasy. It would dismantle the openness that has made the country rich, says Guardian Europe contributor Joseph de Weck

I have another article out as well. I wrote several and now I'm getting around to posting them all.

This one is about why the idea of an autistic-only colony is harmful. It's something I've seen people say before, usually as a joke but it's still worth unpacking. We can do better.

It’s damn good to see #Hungary returning to democracy and the #EU, rejecting the caveman vibe of narcissistic sociopath corrupt greedy haters and delivering a dick punch to the weird #WhiteSupremacist #FakeChristian cult overseas in #America and their supporters in #Europe.

The reality is that just like in the #NaturalWorld, #diversity is the foundation of a thriving world, while #isolationism eventually leads to #extinction.

"The refusal of allies to join us in Iran is not simply a temporary embarrassment. It is a warning. If we do not rebuild respect, credibility, and partnership, we should expect this isolation not to be a one-off shock, but as the new normal."

SPECIAL TO JOY'S HOUSE: Why a Superpower Finds Itself Alone

A former State Department official for arms control explains how NATO's longtime leader finds itself isolated by the war on Iran

Welcome to Joy's House!

All US ambassadors to NATO and all NATO Supreme Allies Commanders between 1998 and 2024 published a letter today, stating the importance of NATO to the US. This on the day that Pete Hegseth skipped a second NATO defense minister summit in a row. Is Rutte concerned? Of course not... everything is fine! Hegseth is just very busy...

NATO is Vital to U.S. National Security

A joint statement by 16 U.S. Ambassadors to NATO and Supreme Allied Commanders, arguing "NATO is not an act of American generosity. It is a strategic bargain that ensures the United States remains the world’s most powerful and economically secure nation at a fraction of the cost of going it alone."
