Strange weather. It’s true that the hills were invisible in the fog bank. The sun was watery and pale. A rainstorm came and went. The road was a silver river and the air was fresh and clear. I’ve used a poem from Africa for the ALT. It tells of the same feelings I had in this nearby landscape on Skye. The image was taken by me last week. It is past the end of winter but spring isn’t really here yet. I dream.

Stormy weather? Well not in actual fact as it was sunny a few moments later. The speed with which the clouds shift and the sun breaks though is alarming. I took this from the passenger seat of the car.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us”

As for me, I’m gonna stand with down home regular people… hobbits. I care more about people than money. Not billionaires. The current administration care only about the rich. #hobbits #celticmusic #isleofskyescotland #lotr #billionaires

Promise
By Jackie Kay

Remember, the time of year

when the future appears

like a blank sheet of paper
.
A clean calendar, a new chance.

On thick white snow

You vow fresh footprints

then watch them go

with the wind’s hearty gust.
Fill your glass
Here’s tae us.
Promises
 made to be broken,
made to last.

The shorter days mean a concentration of light effects and the start of the setting sun is seen fairly soon after noon. This photograph taken at 13:17 last Sunday. Actual sunset was about 2 hours away but there is this golden glow of the closing day already around…

“The Isle of Skye is a Scottish island known for its dramatic, rugged landscape, including the Cuillin mountains, and rich history. Its geography features stunning geological formations, a beautiful coastline, and big skies.”

It’s where I live and I am constantly reminded of the beauty and variety of it. This is on a walk I do regularly with my dog. I have never met another soul there.

I took this photograph from the moving coach on the way down to Sligachan yesterday.

Sligachan (Scottish Gaelic: Sligeachan) is a small settlement on Skye, It is close to the Cuillin mountains and provides a good viewpoint for seeing them. It is situated at the junction of the roads from Portree, Dunvegan, and Broadford. It is therefore a place that all visitors and locals must pass through on the way north or south on the island

@ChaHarper I know the street, i know the view and it‘s stunning. And your photo just gave me a flashback 😇.

Was there in 2016 and the took a pic from (almost) the same spot 😅. The street is so curvy.

This is a view taken from the roadside on my way home from Portree. I do this journey at least twice a week. It never fails to thrill me.

It’s a view looking towards the coast of Minginish from a point high above the main road between Sligachan and Dunvegan near Struan.

We do this drive of necessity as we need to collect laundry and food several times a week. Portree is the nearest supermarket. This is the shortest route...

Chamaenerion angustifolium is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant in the willowherb family, Onagraceae. It is known in North America as Fireweed and in the British Isles as Rosebay Willowherb.

I always knew it as Firewood in my Scottish childhood. It seems the American name arose from the fact that it would be quick to sprout in areas that had been burned. Why then Firewood? Maybe it was Fireweed and I misheard?
