Site Log: Hello World

Tea is Brill is probably one of the biggest isBrill.com projects I have undertaken so far. I love tea as my entire kitchen cupboard dedicated to tea and my friends who try to pick a brew from my collection will tell you.

With this Brill, I want to document not only what I know and love about tea but also everything I learn making and researching for the site.

I plan to focus on two sections – growing the Tea Jargon directory and sharing interesting things about tea. The shares will likely be videos as once I find good videos to share, the work is fairly trivial to queue up. I am mostly looking for videos and external blog posts that are in some way definitive or good for learning from.

I’ve already had some great conversations on Mastodon about tea and its history. There are some truly well-read and knowledgeable people out there. I will be looking to connect with and follow tea enthusiasts and experts. I will also run some polls to create some fun low-effort updates.

You can follow this site on Mastodon as @[email protected] or me as @[email protected].

The task of adding #tea blends to tea.isbrill.com has began. So far, I have added #Assam which I am not entirely sure belongs in that section.

Tea Blends

Tea blending describes the process of blending different teas to produce a final product. This occurs chiefly with black tea that is blended to make most tea bags but can also occur with such teas as Pu-erh, where leaves are blended from different regions before being compressed. Blending aims to create a well-balanced flavour using…

This evening I started working on a new feature for isbrill.com. This will add the ability for members to share related images. That bit works fine. The next bit is this. It will enable tea.isbrill.com to host a "rate my cup of tea" feature. I'm still working on the voting system. Might also add to other suitable brills.

Ways to improve discovery on the IndieWeb

The IndieWeb is slowly moving from innovation to rely adopter so it is time to start thinking about content discovery. After all, what’s the point of a game for two people if you are the only one at the table?

One of the ways IndieWeb can become easier to use is to become easier to discover new users and content.

The example of the […]

My latest #isBrill is about the #games of #OverWording

Over-wording is: The ostentatious art of employing rarefied verbiage peppered with a sampling of lexical obfuscation to communicate with one's peers in such a manner so as to confuse those lacking in your shared extended vocabulary.

Over-wording

Over-wording is a game my friends and I like to play where we try to say things using as wide a vocabulary as possible. As teenagers, we would sometimes employ over-wording to openly communicate about our plans which would specifically exclude those who could not keep up. It was a lot of fun. Over-wording is…

Yesterday I learned that one of my favourite #DnD content creators #JoCat had been silently enduring some serious #cyberbullying. I am not okay with this. Bullying is not okay.

Jo Cat has, quite understandably, said he will take an indefinite leave from content creation. That's sad for us fans but completely understandable.

I made an #isBrill page to celebrate Jo Cat's fine creations and wish him well.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Jo Cat

I think Jo Cat is brilliant. All of his content makes me smile. It might be fair to say that in my friendship group quoting Jo Cat has become an innate part of our shared language. This is not the usual happy brill page. A few days ago, Jo Cat posted that he would be…

A recent #isBrill project of mine is a campaign to promote how good #SoftSciFi as just as good as "hard" #SciFi.

https://soft-scifi.isbrill.com/

Who here is willing to say "I too love soft sci-fi"?

Soft Sci-Fi Is Brill

Hard Sci-Fi is not the only game in town It doesn't have to be hard Sci-Fi to be good Sci-Fi. Soft Sfi-Fi is brill too. If you love soft Sci-Fi write I too love soft Sci-Fi in the comments section. Sci-Fi updates I've taken to sharing short-form fiction, narration, and book reviews that I find…

@Lobster I love puns. I maintain an #isBrill page just for #puns and #dadJokes. You'd better bet I'm going to take a look at your pun page right now.

I'm pleased to announce that the newly revised isBrill.com design is more responsive and just as ugly as ever.

As a showcase, I've been working on a new #isBrill page https://punning.isbrill.com/ - a (growing) collection of puns and dad jokes available over #ActivityPub and fully #WebMention supported.

I'm not a #CSS mega-expert or anything so I am open to criticism of the constructive type.

Punning – We love puns, silly memes, and dad jokes. They're pundermentally puntastic.

#TimeTravelAuthors, pun lovers, and tellers of #DadJokes - give me your best #TimeTravel #jokes, quips, #memes, and #puns.

The ones I like will be shared on #isBrill - https://punning.isbrill.com/ (with a credit link obviously)
