Of course, if Australia were to become a republic, it could follow the examples of the more *interesting* countries in this respect. Not everyone who came later took the U.S.A. as a model to follow.

Eire and Germany do not require their members of their legislatures to swear oaths of office at all.

I wonder how much traction a "no more bloody oaths!" movement would get in a republican Australia. (-:
