Reveals new insight into solar flare heat dynamics and space weather.
A new study by researchers from the University of St Andrews led by Alexander Russell has provided a groundbreaking explanation for a long-standing mystery about solar flares. For decades, scientists have known that solar flare plasma gets incredibly hot, but how ions and electrons heat up different... [More info]
How does the discovery of solar flare ions being 6.5 times hotter than electrons reshape our understanding of solar flare emissions and their impact on space weather, especially for Earth's ionosphere and spacecraft? @aib...

The 1973 Oklahoma Groundwater Law (Oklahoma Statute §82–1020.5) requires that the Oklahoma Water Resources Board conduct hydrologic investigations of the State’s groundwater basins to support a determination of the maximum annual yield for each groundwater basin. Every 20 years, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board is required to update the hydrologic investigation on which the maximum annual yield determinations were based. The maximum annual yield allocated per acre of land is used to set the equal-proportionate share pumping rate. The maximum annual yield of 5,913,600 acre-feet per year and equal-proportionate-share of 2.1 acre-feet per acre per year currently (2025) in place for the Antlers aquifer were issued by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board on February 14, 1995. Because more than 20 years have elapsed since the 1995 final order for the Antlers aquifer was issued, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, completed an in-depth hydrologic...
In 📆 2023, #SpaceX launched the first of its #Starlink V2 Mini satellites 🛰️. These next-generation spacecraft are equipped with #HallEffect thrusters, or #HETs, that operate on #argon, instead of the #krypton propellant on previous Starlinks https://aerospaceamerica.aiaa.org/year-in-review/a-year-of-firsts-for-electric-propulsion
The essential working principle of the #HallThruster is that it uses an #electrostatic potential to accelerate #ions up to high speeds https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall-effect_thruster#Principle_of_operation
