Got tired of the slow speed of freebsd-update and freebsd-update’s usage within #iocage. Now I figured out how that was being used and using freebsd-rustdate together with a #varnish reverse proxy for #FreeBSD’s update server(s) I’m doing jail upgrades from 14.3 to 14.4 under Β±3 minutes after the cache has been prime πŸš€ πŸš€ πŸš€ πŸš€ πŸš€ (this was *hours*)
Looking into #Jails on #FreeBSD, is #iocage still the best option? #Bastille also looks really nice and no dependencies... (coming from an old Synology setup that utilized Docker).

Thanks for that link @[email protected] . Unfortunately it didn't help. I have decided to continue testing Bastille but adding my pf rules manually for now as I'm doing with #iocage on my production systems. When there is more time I revisit that issue and hopefully find my errors. πŸ˜‰

I never used #TrueNAS. I started directly with vanilla #FreeBSD. My first contact with #Jails was through #ezJails, then, when I discovered #VNET and #ZFS I moved to #iocage. Even if I heard a lot of good things about #BastilleBSD I got so used to #iocage that I never tried it. It's always difficult to move to new tools and I generally do it when I'm forced to (as long as the current tool does the job for me).

Have you tried #iocage? If so, how would you compare it to #BastilleBSD?
@[email protected] @puppygirlhornypost2 @[email protected] @[email protected] Thank's for link, I have problems with DHCP settings on VNET jails. But I found nice art. about #iocage and finally it works as expcted. https://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-setup-jail-with-iocage-on-freebsd/ <- for reference. Btw. I didn't know that you were Polish. I have to go deeper in your blog πŸ™‚

I have managed to run jails on my #FreeBSD server. The solution was #iocage https://github.com/freebsd/iocage and nice guide written here https://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-setup-jail-with-iocage-on-freebsd/ 😎

It looks like iocage has been abandoned and I've found Bastille to have some advantages over it.

I tried to look up a way to migrate my jails to Bastille but so far everything includes exporting them from one system to another. Anyone know if I can do this on one system?

It seems that I should, given that both programs just manage the jails, but iocage uses a json file instead of the normal jail config and I'm not exactly sure what it's doing.

I've come from using #iocage and this is a breeze of fresh air!

Had to get use to some new things to me like the pf integration (rdr), and other stuff I'm still exploring but rather than that it's been awesome!

Currently have #AdGuardHome, #Gitea, #Plex, #Nextcloud, #Matrix, #Zabbix and #OpenVPN. All running behind a #nginx reverse-proxy.

Pretty happy with the results!

Amazing job so far! Congrats!!!

Does anyone know how/whether it's possible to enable encryption on the root #zfs volume of an #iocage jail?
