Truth be told, though, Trump is the symptom - not the cause - of what passes for “democracy” in the US!

Indeed, in his excellent Substack article (4 Sept 2022) “Let’s Stop Pretending America Is A Functioning Democracy”, Chris Hedges argues that “decades in the making [..] only the fiction of democracy” remains now that the slow-motion corporate coup has succeeded!

“The slow-motion coup is over. Corporations and the billionaire class have won. There are no institutions, including the press, an electoral system that is little more than legalized bribery, the imperial presidency, the courts or the penal system, that can be defined as democratic. Only the fiction of democracy remains”
