Coogee WA park has fruiting olive trees being used as food by (I think) parrots.

It's been a mystery to me why so many olives get left on the tree or on the ground uneaten by birds.

This is the first time I've seen evidence of them being eaten.
If they are good food then if a species taps into this source its population might boom.
Hoping it's 28s / ring-neck parrots. And not the invasive Eastern Rosellas.

A bit of hopeful environmental news: In Kosciuszko National Park, the reduction of thousands of feral horses has allowed fragile alpine ecosystems to begin recovering. Native plants are returning, wetlands are healing, and wildlife habitats are slowly being restored.
It's a meaningful reminder that with careful management and respect for balance, nature can regenerate. Good news for biodiversity and for future generations.

With thousands of feral horses gone, Kosciuszko’s fragile ecosystems are slowly recovering

With feral horses gone, fragile alpine areas are no longer being trampled by hard hooves. But Kosciuszko’s landscapes will take decades to recover.

The two brown-grey fallow deer does here look like they’re about ready to drop fawns. It’s that time of the year.

They don’t belong here, as they’re introduced (nearly 200 years ago), but they’re here now, so managing them becomes a priority.

Man's best friend - First eradicate the Neanderthals, then biodiversity

Humans and their dogs drove our evolutionary cousins Neanderthals to extinction
"Early dogs, bred from wolves, played a critical role in the modern human’s takeover of Europe 40,000 years ago when we vanquished the Neanderthal locals. The Neanderthals, who had lived there for more than 200,000 years. However, within a few thousand years of our arrival, they disappeared...Humans and hunting dogs were, and still are, a deadly combination." >>

Australia is “riding on the dog's back"
Pastoralism gone to the dogs

A "study estimated the nation's 270,000 working livestock dogs contributed to the economy at an amount similar to Australia's beef exports to the US in 2023-24. Roughly $800 million is what is being saved in labour by the sector by having dogs there rather than having people."

Bumblebees on Viper's Bugloss (Echium vulgare), a Eurasian species. A pretty species but not one to be handled: it has small but sharp spines like a cacti that are easily embedded in human skin and hard to see and remove.
