Pluralistic: Catch this! (16 Jan 2026)

Emma Thompson 👇🏽 is all of us who are pissed off by the constant nags to use #AI while we are busy writing or coding – just let us be 😠:
I've just blocked my ISP from sending me SMS messages, considering that they ALSO send me email at the same time. Maybe there is some setting somewhere on their website where I could turn it off, but, y'know, my time is valuable, so I've just blocked them on my phone. I do NOT fricken need to know, immediately, on my phone with a little tinkle, that my invoice is ready for my viewing, especially since I don't actually have to DO anything about it, since it's paid by automatic debit.
Yes, there are getting to be fewer and fewer things up with which I am willing to put. Call it the privilege of old age. (Being three months away from 60 counts as "old age", yes?)
Look, you online stores, and #AusPost, I DO NOT need to be informed that the seller is "preparing your parcel". What a bloody waste of MY precious time (and more importantly, my FLOW) to be INTERRUPTED for this completely pointless and trivial bit of information. I don't bloody care! If you MUST tell me something, send me an email when it has actually been delivered. I do not want to be reminded constantly that the parcel has not arrived YET.

Interruptions cost 23 minutes 15 seconds, right?
https://blog.oberien.de/2023/11/05/23-minutes-15-seconds.html

You’ve likely read lots of blog posts stating that it takes 23 minutes and 15 seconds to get back to work after an interruption, context switch, or meeting. Thus, “do you have five minutes” ends up not only costing those few minutes, but instead about half an hour. But where does that number come from?
