A Botnet Accidentally Destroyed I2P (The Full Story)

On February 3, 2026, the I2P anonymity network was flooded with 700,000 hostile nodes in what became one of the most devastating Sybil attacks an anonymity network has ever experienced. The network normally operates with 15,000 to 20,000 active devices. The attackers overwhelmed it by a factor

Dunno if this will help anyone, but, random tech tip: if you're using a VPN and a fork of Firefox browser, and your DNS leak test looks like a rusty sieve, check your browser's privacy settings to make sure DNS over HTTPS isn't turned on. I'm no expert in this, but i'm preeeeetty sure that when you're using a VPN, you don't want the internet to see any IP addresses but the one you specifically told it to. What happens when that setting IS enabled is that your browser sends a bunch of other random DNS requests and they all show up on the check's list. For some reason, in MY browser, this is enabled by default. Anyway, I turned it off and passed the leak test with flying colors. Hope this helps someone. (it says it will turn itself off when a VPN is enabled. It lies).

If I've got something horribly wrong, here, or done something extremely stupid without realizing, PLEASE correct me in the replies so this post doesn't mislead anyone who reads it (and so i can fix my fuckup).

by meskio and shelikhoo | December 3, 2025 From internet blackouts in Iran to Russia's evolving censorship tactics, 2025 has tested Tor's anti-censorship tools like never before. The type of network you use changes how platforms respond to you.

On a random public Wi‑Fi, your traffic might look noisy or inconsistent. On a clean, stable home‑style IP in a specific city or state, the same activity can seem normal and trustworthy. That difference shapes everything from sign‑in challenges to rate limits.

Stop Breaking TLS

Rant ahead: I hate TLS “Inspection” software with a burning passion and I wish we collectively as an industry would just knock it the fuck off and stop pretending it’s some great security benefit. Every time I encounter it, in whatever form, it’s a gigantic headache that makes everyone’s life worse off and as far as I am concerned offers next to zero tangible benefits.
