How to make long-distance travel in Europe better? | Podcast Episode on RSS.com

Why is it still so complicated to book a train ticket from Munich to Lisbon? Should short-haul flights in Europe be banned? And can night trains really become a viable alternative? In this episode, we talk about the challenges of long-distance travel in Europe with Oded Cats, full professor at the Delft University of Technology. He recently received an ERC Consolidator Grant to study how long-distance passenger transport systems can be better designed, coordinated, and scaled across borders. We discuss why international rail travel is still so fragmented, what role policy and infrastructure play, and why banning short-haul flights might not be as effective as we might think.More about our guest:https://www.tudelft.nl/citg/over-faculteit/afdelingen/transport-planning/staff/persoonlijke-paginas/cats-oMore about the research project:https://www.tudelft.nl/citg/over-faculteit/afdelingen/transport-planning/labs/smart-public-transport-lab/3mars Music recommendation of the episode:The Warmth, by Incubushttps://open.spotify.com/intl-de/track/0LkssuXRYPFYapjXH9pJBX

I almost regret I signed up for the #IOP conf in #Harrogate (some 130km from your event) on the same week… Programme is more suited for my research, but @Co_Biologists
has this scheme :

"We are delighted to announce #Sustainable Travel Incentives for those travelling to our #Biologists @ 100 #conference. Sustainable #rail incentives up to £150 will be available for #internationalTrain journeys"

(not a money question… although my CNRS funding is currently inaccessible)

Hello people who take international trains in Europe:
I am trying to book a train from the Netherlands to Copenhagen for the last week in July; have been trying for a few weeks, and it seems that the DSB (Danish) still don't have tickets available for the summer past July 23. Any one else run into this, or have any thoughts on when tickets might be available?

Greetings to @jon from the #Porto-#Vigo #InternationalTrain!

It's a #CP (Comboios de Portugal) three-wagons noisy diesel #train, but you can only buy the ticket from Spanish #Renfe.

Seat assignment is automatic, so families have to negotiate with other passengers if they want to travel together.

Children below 4 travel for free, but they don't get a seat.

Leaving Porto now!
