@lirantal

As Kagen likes to say, "yeah, that's why we have litigation." This is an argument that gets you in the courthouse door, not an argument that proves the point. The issue everyone is having (and that keeps them talking past one-another) is the workflow and resulting quality both fluxuate from user to user and seem different with different #AI tools.   🤷

There is something to the "vibe coded code sucks" side because they have experience with inferior code made using these tools. If someone is struggling with how to structure something and asks for an example from an #LLM that's not a terrible idea in terms of code quality, but remember the #IntellectualProperty rights are ruined for the whole project when you do. I'm willing to believe we'll get somewhere useful for everyone in a few years, but I'm not convinced we're there today.

Hands on with Adobe Firefly: Finally an image generator that can be used in school

Generative AI is a multimodal technology, with applications in text, image, video, audio, and code. Unfortunately, up until now, the actual usefulness of GAI in schools has been limited by technical and practical barriers. ChatGPT, for example, is easy to access but problematic in the classroom due to its obscure terms and conditions and dubious privacy and data storage. There are also ethical concerns with its construction, the bias in the output, and the potential to generate inappropriate […]

Tech’s cavalier attitude to copyright hurts creators and consumers

In a recent online lunch & learn for the Copyright Agency, I presented on the rapid advances in multimodal generative AI, including audio, video, code, and virtual reality applications. While these technologies offer exciting possibilities for creativity and innovation, they also raise serious concerns about copyright infringement and the potential harm to both consumers and creators. I've written about copyright before as one of the nine areas of ethical concern in my Teaching AI Ethics […]

What can undermine respect for #intellectualProperty?

“Reputation misattribution” did it in two studies: the #ethics of IP varied by whether rightful creators were denied due credit and undeserving parties received the credit, regardless of legal status.
