sankeys, instant progress dashboards based on disparate data sources that update themselves -- the visual display of information I've always designed, spent days fighting excel or another analytics package to create, and ultimately failing at ... now they're a 15 minute job in Claude Code (plus a 30 minute audit to make sure the analysis is done accurately).

Density vs. Clarity: The Core Tension in Modern UI Design

Modern UI design is torn between two opposing forces: clarity and density. Minimalism promised calm, but often hides complexity—while dense interfaces like Figma or Notion prove chaos can be "beautifully organized". This piece dives into the uncomfortable truth every designer faces: when does clarity stop helping and start dumbing things down?

A small but meaningful update to Vienna’s rapid transit network: today the new U2 station “Lina-Loos-Platz” officially opened.

To mark the occasion, I’ve updated my geographical Vienna U-Bahn map, inspired by the classic Paris Metro map designs. The new version includes the added station, refined labeling and network logic, and lines under construction as well as future lines.

Exploratory data analysis is usually where the first real insight appears, and I’ve been looking for ways to make that moment clearer and more immediate.

One experiment I’m trying is a hover-based UI: move your cursor over a column and a compact histogram appears. It gives you an instant feel for the distribution without interrupting your flow.

i know everyone is trying their best, but this diagram really feels like a crime against information design.

1) very difficult to follow visually
2) white text with black stroke - very difficult to read
3) mystery numbers in white
4) mystery percentages in red
5) overall visual impression is of overwhelming complexity
