It has been three years since this conference occured. Three years since a panel of very knowledgeable people have presented alternatives to the madcap economic systems which are leading us to a dead planet (at least for humankind and many of its econsystems). These alternative address major areas requiring dramatic changes:

#Wealth distribution to end #poverty and #inequity

#Decarbonisation to keep our planet alive

#Equality, #education and #enpowerment for all, especially #women

#Sustainable #food production and distribution

An end to #Consumerism and #GPD measured #Growth without advocating #deGrowth

And one more I forgot :( sry. (I should’ve taken notes)

It’s a long video, but if you’re searching for solutions to our social, environmental and economic #trainwrecks, this is a will spell them out for you.

This information has been widely disseminated to educators, activists, political leaders and economists worldwide. So my questions are: What’s holding us back? Why aren’t we seeing something other than a global rise in #Fascism #FossilFuelUse the #MilitaryIndustrialComplex #Billionairism and #Oligopoly ?

Rethinking Economic Systems for Long-term Sustainable Development

This is worth reading;
“A good life for the 99% isn’t a pipe dream: it can be done.
The Global Justice Report, published on Thursday, tries to overcome the shortcomings of mainstream approaches to the polycrisis, including the overly materialistic emphasis of traditional leftist parties, the questionable efficacy of the economic degrowth proposed by many ecologists and the lack of social impact studies by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.”

"They find that longer time in preschool is linked to higher fourth grade reading scores, with an increase of around five points for each year of preschool. But the advantages of preschool attendance are greater for children whose parents are less involved or have lower levels of education."

Early education doesn’t erase inequality, but research shows preschool can significantly narrow reading achievement gaps.

Maybe I’m an exception. Without turning this toot into a book, let me affirm right here that for this #boomer, life has been just as hard as it has been for anyone born after my generation. I’ll add that I was only able to afford my own house at the age of 72 and only with the help of close family members . Nothing has been given to me on a plate as an adult just because I grew up in the post-war years of relatively favourable redistribution of wealth — all of which, and more, has been clawed back in the last 40 yrs or so. As a parting shot, let me just say that all of our collective problems (talking about the 90% of our society) stem from the #neoliberalism which has ensured run-away inequity and the concentration of wealth in the remaining 10% — because we’ve *All* allowed it to occur (due to apathy, brain-washing, stupidity, misinformed, and/or many other faux pas) since the late 70s. All of this to say, I grow tired of all the finger pointing to a single generation for all the ills suffered by society since then. Believe me when I say, I never voted/asked for any of it.

Our first step out of this mess is a simple one, *Join Your Union* and fight for what is due to us all.

"We went by bus because it costs about 30% of air travel. Because there’s no longer a train service from our town. Because we’ve driven the route often, but wanted the chance to sit up high and stare into river valleys or people’s front windows. We didn’t travel that way for a learning experience, but it turned out to be one. I’ll try to explain without sounding too repellently patronising or ignorant."

An InterCity bus ride taught me NZ egalitarianism is a fairy tale

Kiwi Battlers, a hooded hoiker and a 40-year-old with three teeth show me how much my life has narrowed.

I was today years old when I realised that the glass ceiling is called that because it’s invisible to *men*, not because it’s invisible to *everyone*.

I feel so silly for that penny taking a decade or two to drop for me

Footnote: Referencing men here b/c of the context in which “glass ceiling” was first coined, but obviously glass ceilings are invisible wherever there’s privilege.
