#Australia - National #Indigenous Times

"The National Indigenous Times is a multi-award winning Indigenous affairs news organisation set up by Owen Carriage which first appeared in newspaper form on February 27, 2002, and produces a monthly newspaper which is read by around 1 million Australians each month across the country.

"In 2016, following a period of administration, the publication was purchased by prominent #Indigenous businessmen #WayneBergmann and #ClintonWolf, as well as the late respected journalist, #TonyBarrass, who became the newspaper’s editor.

"At that time the National Indigenous Times also pivoted to online for the first time, and today has a rapidly growing digital reach across Australia and worldwide through www.nit.com.au and social media channels.

"#NIT is now 100 per cent owned by Mr Bergmann, who serves as Executive Chairman, and Mr Wolf, the company’s Managing Director.

"Core editorial focuses for the NIT include Indigenous business, justice for Stolen Generations survivors, fashion and the arts, sport, Voice, Treaty and Truth, and deaths in custody."

#NativeAmericanCalling - #OilDrilling vs #CulturalPreservation at #ChacoCanyon

May 27, 2026 By Art Hughes

"The #Trump administration is moving to undo a 20-year ban on #OilAndGasDrilling near Chaco Canyon, a place of major cultural significance to #pueblos in the Southwest. The threat of new oil leases on nearly 340,000 acres of #PublicLand surrounding Chaco Canyon has put the site on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s [#NTHP] list of America’s #MostEndangeredSpaces. It is the second time on the same list for the land that is already a protected National Historic Park and a #UNESCOWorldHeritageSite. The moratorium was instituted in 2023 by then-Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, who is a Laguna Pueblo citizen. We’ll hear about the options ahead for the land and the cultural significance it holds."

“It’s About People Feeding Their Families”: #Indigenous-Led #AntiAusterity Protests Rock #Bolivia

#DemocracyNow, May 29, 2026

"Protests in Bolivia are demanding the resignation of #RodrigoPaz, the country’s first #RightWing president in decades. Since #Paz took office in November 2025, the country has been placed under austerity measures that have led to a surge in poverty rates for much of Bolivia’s rural and working-class population. We speak to Kathryn Ledebur, director of the #AndeanInformationNetwork in #CochabambaBolivia, about the monthlong protests. 'Bolivia is a country where, for 19 years, #IndigenousPeople and social movements enjoyed equal rights and political inclusion,' she explains. 'There’s a huge break between what Paz promised and what he’s done in practice, which is select a white, upper-middle-class Cabinet with only two women, reject any genuine dialogue, reject interaction with the Bolivian social movements, or even have any empathy for people and what they’re going through day to day.'

"Ledebur also discusses the Paz administration’s growing ties with the Trump administration as the U.S. seeks to expand its so-called war on drugs throughout Latin America."

#Australia - ‘Gone forever’: political anger after #NSW #Aboriginal #HeritageSite bulldozed for power lines

The #RockShelter was destroyed by contractors building #TransmissionLines for the Central-West Orana #RenewableEnergyZone

Petra Stock
Wed 27 May 2026

"#Indigenous community members have described their shock and anger after an Aboriginal rock shelter was 'damaged beyond recovery' by contractors building transmission lines for a #NewSouthWales renewable energy zone.

"The #HeritageSite was destroyed by bulldozers in March during the construction of access tracks for the #CentralWestOrana renewable energy zone, a transmission line project located about 300km north-west of #Sydney.

"The network company #Acerez, engaged by the state government to design, build and operate the infrastructure project, discovered the damage in May while undertaking due diligence checks.

"A company spokesperson said processes to protect the shelter 'were not fully implemented'.

" 'We are deeply sorry and apologise without reservation to the #TraditionalOwners and to the local community,' they said."
