Created a blog post on installing Common Music for Lisp (using Incudine):
https://cianoc.github.io/2023/09/12/Installing.html
Not sure if its pitched too high/low - so feedback is welcome.
Until my pull request is approved, this won't technically work using PortMidi (i.e. Windows, OSX and Linux users who disdain Jack).
So if you need PortMidi support, use this fork of cm-incudine:
https://github.com/cianoc/cm-incudine
Common Music has been around a while, and there are multiple versions of it. This can make it difficult to work out how to get started with it. In this post I’m going to show you what you need to get a modern version up and running, which will do realtime scheduling, works with MIDI, OSC (e.g. SuperCollider), will generate sheet music and can even be used for synthesis.
Finally got Common Music running on my machine (Mac) for SBCL/incudine. Not sure about the performance (lot of consing - which may be fine), but goddam it's fun.
So far got it to generate realtime MIDI, lilypond and SuperCollider. CSound is next. I may never emerge from my room.

Fuck Lamborghini, I want an #anvil like this one!
Even the mill is not bad, but the ceiling of my #workshop is too low for that.

Fanculo le Lamborghini, voglio una bella #incudine come questa!
Anche la fresatrice non è male, ma il soffitto della #mastofficina è troppo basso per farcela entrare.
We resurface a 100 year old Kohlswa anvil. Will Stelter and I discovered a neat trick by bouncing a ball bearing to observe how dense the steel of the anvil is. Then we compared our anvils to see which one was bigger and better! This is a big anvil. What makes an anvil good? Who makes the best anvil? What is a good cheap anvil? How to machine an anvil flat? Do I need an anvil? Is flattening an anvil bad? Will Stelter’s video https://youtu.be/rkwKkl4Ol1c https://fireballtool.com/
Questa è la mia #incudine regalatami da un compagno di Dorno già scomparso.
Nella seconda foto ci ho messo sopra un piano di legno per far notare quanto ha di avvallamento.
An old #anvil like mine, canyons included: I bought the metal #shaper just to flatten it (soon or later).
That basement seems a bit overengineered…

#mastofficina 🛠️
Una vecchia #incudine come la mia, avvallamenti compresi: ho preso la #limatrice solo per spianarla (prima o poi).
La base sembra un tantino surdimensionata…
In this video I finally flatten the 75 kg (165 lbs) forged anvil I got 6 years back when I first started blacksmithing. I ended up removing only 1.5mm from the surface to get most of the working area 100% flat so I can now use this as my clean and super flat anvil for fine and small work. This is also the reason why I made the stand this tall taking the face of the anvil up to 90cm high so I don't have to bend over quite as much when doing finer forging work. For heavy work I do have my other monster anvil at the right height: https://youtu.be/HTq5bGRD4Y8 This is something I wanted to do for more then a year now, every step of this project took a real long time but I am now super happy to have this other cool anvil to work with when I need! A 225 kgs #anvil recovered from a bombed factory in Germany after WWII and restored… still ringing like a chime 😍

Una bella #incudine da 225 kg recuperata da una fabbrica bombardata in Germania dopo la 2ª Guerra Mondiale e restaurata… suona come un carillon 😍
Joshua Greenwood of greenwoodironworks.com and https://anvils4sale.com/ of Petersburg, Virginia, and a striker forge a single furrow fishtail scroll on a 225 kilogram German anvil. This anvil is part of the Greenwood Collection on anvilfire.com. Extraordinary damage to the horns and front foot of the anvil indicate that the anvil experienced some ultra violent moments. It came from the Good Hope Mill factory (Guten Hoffnungs Hütte (GHH)) in Oberhausen Germany, a major armaments manufacturer which was bombed in World War 2. We repaired this fundamentally sound anvil to put it back in use, but we left the 2 spectacular gouges on the front foot.
