"Fairphone’s progress on core impact strategies, page 21.
Under the header "Levels of circularity: 8 R’s" are 3 shaded areas pointing to "KPI 2", "KPI 3", then "KPI 3 + 4". A banded arrow along the left bridges these areas, pointing upward. Its label is "Order of Priority" from "Low" to "High".
These point to KPI 2.
Refuse: prevent raw materials use.
Rethink: redesign product in view of circularity.
These point to KPI 3.
Reduce: decrease raw materials use.
Repair: maintain and repair product.
Refurbish: revive product.
Remanufacture: make new product from second hand.
Repurpose: re-use product but with other function.
This points to KPI 3 + 4.
Recycle: salvage material streams with highest possible value.

This defense of #statusquo and #incrementalism as the ONLY way forward is jaw-dropping in its complete denial of the #urgency and #scale of #climatechange
#Influential people like this writer are simply unwilling to engage with the catastrophic impacts faced by folks in the #developing world where there is no recourse. For these folks - it is all a #game

A quotation from Joseph Joubert
Imitate time. It destroys slowly. It undermines, wears, loosens, separates. It does not uproot.Joseph Joubert (1754-1824) French moralist, philosopher, essayist, poet

If there's any good to come from Trumpism (if democracy survives 2026), it's that the center left will know full well that we can't return to the incrementalist status quo of 2024.
I supported Bernie in 2016 and 2020. And endured the ire and disbelief of the well-intentioned center-leftist establishmentists here in blue MA who said Bernie is "too liberal".
It was clear in 2020 that Biden defeated Trump, but not Trumpism. The fact that Trump was so incompetent and we had a pandemic and a stalled economy, so any competent challenger ought to romp over Trump (one would think), yet Biden barely squeaked by: it made me think in 2020, "Well, thank goodness Biden beat Trump, but Biden better pull out all the stops or Trump will win in 2024."
Biden did not pull out all the stops. He did better than I expected, but he didn't go all-out. He tried to repair the middle. And here we are. And we *still* have some Democratic thought leaders saying Republicans' wins mean the party needs to lean right.
Thing is, there *is* in fact a "liberal elite" that is out of touch with the struggles of many Americans. it's just not how MAGA portrays it: it's soccer moms and other people doing comfortably and therefore thinking things weren't so bad before Trump. Who want people to "come to their senses" so we can go back to the moderate incremental center. I know, because I'm embedded in this society.
These people are now buying guns and worrying about civilizational collapse. They are following Bernie and AOC's tour with hope. They are thinking Schumer should resign. Very many of them have finally come to understand, viscerally, that there is no going back. If we survive this, no more incrementalism.
About damn time. Now let's see if we can manage two years.
