So, this brouhaha over Lupita Nyong'o's role as Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan's upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey boils down to just one thing: racism.

1. Homer never describes Helen of Troy in the Iliad. Only that she's like a goddess
2. The ancient world was more complex and diverse than what 20th Century cinema depicted. There were a lot of Ethiopian women and men across the "classical" regions e.g. Solomon's wife according to Song of Songs was very much likely Nubian.
