Trump's new envoy to Greenland says US is not looking to 'conquer' the Danish territory

President Donald Trump’s newly appointed envoy to Greenland says the Republican administration is looking to begin a conversation with residents of the semi-autonomous Danish territory about the best way forward for the strategically important island. The special envoy, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, said in an appearance Tuesday on Fox News that the administration isn’t going to “go in there trying to conquer anybody" or "take over anybody’s country.” The governor’s comments seemed somewhat at odds with Trump, who has repeatedly said the U.S. needs to take over the Arctic territory for the sake of U.S. security and has not ruled out military force to take control of the mineral-rich Arctic island.
