New research reveals that cells in blood vessels in the #liver start a "sleep timer" that switches off #ImmuneCells in #ChronicHepatitisB. Targeting this mechanism could be a starting point for new #immunotherapies: http://go.tum.de/857974

"Sleep timer" for immune cells discovered

In chronic hepatitis B, a "sleep timer" is triggered in immune cells, which switches them off. This prevents them from destroying infected liver cells.

Special #seminar this Thursday, 4/4, at noon EST with Jason George from Texas A&M. Dr. George will discuss #biophysical and stochastic modeling of the tumor-immune interaction for optimizing T cell #immunotherapies. And you can join here:

Despite their promise, #immunotherapies fail to treat many #cancers, including over 80% of some of the most advanced #breast cancers. And many of those patients who do respond still experience #metastases eventually.

A molecule made by #Streptococcus #pyogenes — the #bacterium that causes #strep throat — could help explain the origins of enigmatic #autoimmune diseases such as #rheumatic fever and #lupus. Findings illuminate why century-old #cancer #immunotherapies showed promise and why modern immune therapies for cancer don’t work as often as they could.

Strep Molecule Illuminates Cancer Immune Therapies

Insights could help scientists manipulate the immune system to treat cancer or certain autoimmune diseases.

We validated the identified immunopeptides based on known HLA motifs, as well as predicted binding affinity using NetMHCpan.

In conclusion, our timsTOF fragment ion intensity prediction model can be used for PSM rescoring to highly accurately and sensitively identify immunopeptides. This has several important implications for the discovery of (neo-)epitopes and development of #immunotherapies.
