When I think of Nauset beach, I am reminded of early mornings walking the sands wrapped in dense fog. One late afternoon, however, a fog rolled in slowly off the ocean, something I had never experienced outside of Northern California. 1/2

There’s a long tradition of death symbols in art—like the skull on the canopy of leaves here—invoked as “memento mori.” The phrase translates to “remember to die,” but more accurately the symbols serve as reminder of the brevity of existence. 1/2
