Free Script Friday. I find myself using this script a lot when I need to convert screenshots or images to something that is best for web use.

Yes, I did use AI to help create this Bash script. It require ImageMagick to handle HEIC files and image manipulation.

I like to create scripts like this for repetitive tasks. In my use case, I needed to convert a bunch of images to JPEG format and reduce their size to 80% so that I could use them for the web. I know there are many other ways to do this, but this works for my needs. Can even assign this script and commands to a hotkey and not even type a single thing in the terminal.

Usage: ./batch_image_convert.sh -d ~/Pictures/ -s 80%

Options:
-d <source_dir> Directory containing the images to convert. If omitted, the script uses the current directory (".").

-s <scale> Resize factor, expressed as a percentage (e.g. 25%). Must end with a percent sign. Default is 50%.

The script creates a sub‑folder named "converted" inside the source directory and writes the converted JPEG files there.

❗ Update on the plagiarism and data falsification case: one of the articles has been officially RETRACTED

Remember my post from May 14 regarding the falsification and plagiarism of my materials in two scientific articles? Here are the first official results.

❗ The Editorial Board of the journal "Land Reclamation and Water Management" (Kyiv) has completed the primary actions in response to my official complaint:
🔹 Status updated: The article has been officially assigned the international status of RETRACTED.
🔹 Metadata changes: The "RETRACTED" notice is now integrated directly into the article's title and the international citation block (How to Cite). Any attempt to cite this material within the global scientific community will now automatically flag it as a discredited source.
🔹 Digital footprint: The changes are fixed at the DOI level and are synchronizing with international scientometric databases.

❗Update on Plagiarism and Falsification in Scientific Publications

Today, I officially submitted requests for the retraction of articles to the editorial boards of the journals "Land Reclamation and Water Management" and "Bulletin of NUWM".

❗Key facts of misconduct:
🔹 Plagiarism: Unauthorized use of my original relief map (2015) without citation.
🔹 Falsification: Intentional removal (retouching) of the author’s stamp with coordinates and date-time on site photographs.
🔹 Duplication: Publication of identical material in 2021 and 2024.

Next steps:
In the event of attempts to covertly remove the articles without an official retraction notice, relevant complaints will be forwarded directly to @crossref and the international members of the editorial boards.

Here for another example is a test of a naive way to apply image 1's palette to image 3, using only HSL adjustment and curves. Obviously in many contexts extracting the colours from image 1 and using them to make a gradient map would do the job better. #imagemanipulation

I did some experimenting with #ImageManipulation in #Krita this evening. I took a #KoruTawa image I generated last weekend, trimmed strips out to make it narrower, resized, then applied an explode filter in Irfanview and pasted four copies of that back into Krita with soft light, overlay, lighten, and darken blend modes, and decreased the opacity of all layers. It created a surprisingly cool diffuse texture and gives the shapes some volume and glow.
