An abandoned building, dust and rusty rail. This is the Ijevan railway station located in Armenia’s bordering Tavush region.

The railway has been inactive for 30 years now. During the Soviet era, it connected the Armenian region of Tavush to the Qazax and Aghstafa regions in Azerbaijan.

After the 44-day Artsakh War in the fall of 2020, Azerbaijan is now focused on opening transportation links in the region, much of which will go near or through Armenia. But what is the likelihood that these systems will operate in the near future? And what are the security guarantees for the nearby populations.
