A nice and well-annotated network visualization, it's not so often! So I'm sharing it here.

I'm thinking of my students whom I force to annotate every single visualization they deliver.

#ICWSM @Gephi

Still attending the #ICWSM conference. Very interesting session on LLMs and political science.

The presenter presents the "peril" of having hidden, latent political biases in LLMs, which is a problem when you need to use the LLM so code political statements at scale. They also remark that LLMs are apparently known to be left-leaning.

I'm typically thinking of Musk complaining about Grok.

Since I'm attending the #ICWSM (in addition to hosting it this year) and since I'm seeing a number of network visualization, let me say this again: the "Divided they Blog" picture lives rent-free in many researchers' heads, and it's especially strong in this community.

Pic related.

To be fair, the community is self-aware, as the ICWSM issues an "Adamic-Glance Distinguished Young Researcher Award" (authors or the above-mentioned paper).

Nice @Gephi visualization spotted at #ICWSM

If you’ll be at #ICWSM, @icssi.bsky.social, #CSS workshop in #Mannheim, or RING Vorlesung @tugraz, let’s connect! I’d love to hear what you’re working on too.

If you're going to @FAccT, don’t miss chatting w/ raising star Mauritz Cartier @MauritzCVD.x.com

With Nikou Farsiu (#CSHVienna summer intern 2024), Marton Karsai and Daniel Corsi, we explored a decade of online conversations about cannabis use during pregnancy on Twitter in USA and Canada. Coming to #ICWSM 🌿🤰🏽
Some exciting news 🎉 We got 2 papers accepted ( #icwsm & @FAccT) + 2 abstracts @icssi.bsky.social + I’ll be giving 4 invited talks on network inequality & fairness (#CSS workshop in #Mannheim, @tugraz, #NetSci satellites). A short summary of each paper below (1/7)👇
Nice! RT @bkeegan: @northeastern's @ryancordell's kids mentioned in Facebook Data Science presentation at #ICWSM about Million Like Memes.
It's striking that even a conference on social media like #ICWSM doesn't get much traction here on Mastodon - let alone anywhere close to what Twitter used to achieve back in the days. Are we condemned to LinkedIn now?
