📚 Now that I'm back in Brisbane from my #IAMCR2023 trip, I've posted a quick update on a few of my new publications over on the blog:

• structure of 'the' public sphere
• platform policy audit
• destructive polarisation
• social media analytics

Most sensible thing at #IAMCR23 would have been to take all noon and afternoon panels to video format so people can sit in their air conditioned hotels to present and attend. Then in the evening they could meet up in the city for drinks and dinner in the evening. #IAMCR2023
Great #IAMCR2023 plenary on the contribution of academia to peace-building. Thanks to Nico Carpentier and Andrea Medrado for organising. Timely reminder for academia about our role (or even duty?!) and social engagement.

I'm excited to be presenting my first of two papers at #IAMCR23 later at 4pm today...

... but also dreading it as it's forecast to be 37 degrees throughout the afternoon in Lyon. 🫠

there's a few #iamcr2023 folks here! (It also doesn't help there's no agreement on hashtag...) It's not totally empty, but it's still a drop for a conference with hundreds of participants. I just read your reflections on your conference

I feel the same way. I made my Twitter account 10years ago to participate in parallel conversations at conferences, it makes me slightly sad that there are barely any at this moment...

I had a really great time at #socrel23 - the annual conference of the Sociology of Religion Study Group for the British Sociological Association. I built a space for myself at conferences through tweets, and I did so this week. We're not a huge group, but there were usually a few others who would engage, comment, etc, plus those outside the event keeping tabs through the hashtag. Two things (in two more toots): 1) Engagement is down on Twitter 2) Next to nothing on Mastodon

En route pour #Lyon to join #IAMCR2023.

Tomorrow, I'll be presenting joint work with Maria Grub & Peter Vorderer on #Learning and #IllusionOfKnowing as outcomes of #SocialMedia #News exposure.

Join the #PolComm #MediaEffects panel at 2pm in Amphi3.
