BIOS Limit von 504 MB für Festplatten umgehen mit FAT32, dank EZ-Drive
Ältere 386/486 Mainboards bis 1994 erkennen im BIOS zwar vermeintlich mehr als 504 MB, aber letztendlich lässt sich eine Festplatte unter MS-DOS oder Windows 95/98 trotzdem nur mit maximal 504 MB ansprechen und partitionieren.
Um trotzdem mehr als dieses Limit nutzen zu können, gibt es diverse Lösungsmöglichkeiten mit Vor- und Nachteilen:

@philpem maybe search the #changelog|s if support for said SoC / board got yeeted in the meantime?
Personally I hope #i486 (incl. #i486SX) support remains in the #Linux #Kernel because old / legacy industrial/embedded/critical infrastructure systems quite often still use that stuff or get re-deployed with #Vortex86-SX and other #SoC|s for #ISA support and oftentimes a Linux running ddrescue and/or dd is the only worling and reproduceable way to #backup and/or #restore systems that old.

I.e. #Itanium support as shortly dropped after that got #EoL'd because it was a dead-on-arrival shitshow and basically any buyer stuck with #HPUX on #IA64 anyway…

I got an interesting cpu card with a #i486 cpu and a second level cache Module i485. It is from a epson eisa Computer.
@TheQuinbox mostly it's because _OS/1337 is a #CLI / #TUI-only distro and all applications need to function on an #i486 with 80x24 MDA output. so as to be useable...
