@EpiphanicSynchronicity @ozamidas @anildash yes re excellent #i3 docs. When I was extending #inxi window manager and desktop support I installed everything available, in some vms. i3 had by far the best docs of anything I tested. Best man page, best web docs, so I figured if their docs are this good their code must be as well. Sadly the same could not be said for #sway, the wayland i3 clone. Maybe that's gotten better by now. i3 docs also inspired me to upgrade inxi docs and public data.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity @ozamidas @anildash no gnome stayed that bad. I like free software operating systems because you find install then stay with the desktop and/or window manager you like. #xfce in my case, or #i3 / #sway.

Note that most free software window managers / desktops can be installed on the BSDs too so it's wrong to call these #linux when you are referring to the user interface. A few have hooks to systemd which ties them to the linux kernel, but most don't.

RoseNotes and RoseProcess!
Two simple applications written in rust.

One for note taking, the other for killing processes.

Perfect for tiling wm, when you set it up with a floating window like I do in i3.

#i3 #tilingwindowmanager

@len @mason I have used tiling window managers for many years, including ratpoison, awesomewm, and StumpWM. I did try i3 once or twice. If you like any of these, you will probably like exwm.

exwm removes that extra layer introduced by the separate window manager. Instead of having to interact with something other than Emacs, you manage all your windows directly from within Emacs. A frame is just the desktop, i.e. it takes up the full monitor, and Emacs windows obviously then tile that frame.

If you want workspaces, you can use multiple frames or, what I prefer, tab-bar-mode in a single frame (per monitor).

If you customise `display-buffer-alist`, your windows will appear where you want them automatically! This is particularly useful on large monitors as the default window placement heuristics/rules in Emacs are more suitable for small to medium sized monitors.

Other window managers lack the malleability, flexibility, and adaptability of Emacs. StumpWM comes close, mind you, but still introduces an extra layer between you and the computer.

#Emacs #i3

I'd like to try a dynamic tiling #WindowManager on my ultrawide (coming from #i3). Recs? Xorg preferred but willing to try Wayland.

@gnome I'm using #i3 (WM) over #Gnome (DE) and well, yes.

It's been what, 15 years now? It is a really *solid* foundation. Thanks #Gnome, my old friend.

Buenas, hoy es #viernesDeEscritorio
