I've had #hypoglycemia before, but never known myself to have slurred speech due to it before.

It was interesting. I could hear myself slurring, and had to try really hard not to slur (still failed). Had none of my usual symptoms (shaky, clammy skin).

Sorted quickly once I realized what it was (and tested to confirm).

My blood sugar is too low… sustenance required

Diabetes-Associated Blindness Is Due To Low Blood Sugar. Johns Hopkins preclinical studies demonstrate how hypoglycemia triggers retinal damage. #diabetes #hypoglycemia #hif #diabeticretinopathy #32134D

Howard G. Smith MD, AM on Instagram: "Diabetes-Associated Blindness Is Due To Low Blood Sugar Loss of vision due to retinal degeneration is a devastating complication of diabetes. Now Johns Hopkins research ophthalmologists report in the journal Science Translational Medicine preclinical studies that demonstrate how low blood sugar episodes, known as hypoglycemia, that are experienced by diabetics trigger the development of the blinding retinal damage known as diabetic retinopathy. Studying diabetic mice, the investigators discovered that levels of the protein hypoxia-inducible factor or HIF increase as blood sugar levels decline. HIF, in turn, initiates harmful retinal blood vessel leaks with exposure of retinal cells to toxic circulating elements. This leads to the retinal degeneration characteristic of diabetic retinopathy. Low blood sugar levels fail to induce this toxic chain reaction in non-diabetic mice. The best news is that a drug labeled as 32-134D capably blocks the production of HIF and the increase in retinal blood vessel permeability responsible for diabetic retinopathy. This discovery sets the stage for the development of pharmaceutical agents with similar vision-preserving capabilities. Meanwhile, if you are an insulin-dependent type 1 diabetic of any age, know that stringent control of your blood sugars should emphasize the prevention of hypoglycemic episodes. Speak with your medical team and develop insulin dosing strategies that fulfill this goal. Know how to recognize hypoglycemia and be prepared with foods to counteract it. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/scitranslmed.adq5355 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/05/250506105340.htm #diabetes #hypoglycemia #hif #diabeticretinopathy #32134D"

β€œHypoglycemia” oil on canvas, 18”x24” I took the source photo for this painting several years ago. When I brought my empty stomached and therefore pukey spawn some toast, I saw those toes and and the way the morning light was hitting his shirt… and then won the mother of the year award when I started taking a bunch of pics because I knew I had to paint that moment. (Spawn was fine. We’re both cursed with this stupid phenomenon of getting nauseated and then puking up bile if our stomachs are empty. The only way to make it better is by eating ASAP. We both know better than to go too long without eating, and now that he’s almost an adult it almost never happens anymore.) #art #artist #hypoglycemia #ncartist #supportlivingartists #commissionsopen #oilpainting #oiloncanvas #worshippingtheporcelaingod

Earlier today I went to the store to grab a few things. I found these while I was there and they sounded like tasty tasty hyposnacks. Honey has a long shelf life, thought to not really spoil. Each of the little containers is 20g of carbs, which is portioned really well for treating a hypo.

I changed my pod site from my abdomen to my arm. I guess this is what happens when you don’t realize you’re just adjusting for excess adipose tissue.

Today can suck it.
