In Greek mythology, Hyperion was one of the original twelve Titans (the old gods), and the lord of light. His children were Helios (the Sun), Selene (the Moon), and Eos (the Dawn). It is unclear if the Olympians imprisoned Hyperion in Tartarus along with the other Titans or let him go free.
