Did you know that you can ionize molecular oxygen into O_2+? Not a typo, 0_2+ is the correct spelling.

You might have heard of ClF_3, famously #hypergolic (catches fire/goes boom without ignition source) with everything from test engineers to asbestos.

You might also have heard of FOOF, really F_2O_2, but FOOF is the sound your test equipment makes when in contact with it.

But there's PtF_6 ?!??!! which oxidizes O_2 and even xenon.

Space Shuttle Orbiter Discovery

The #Starliner delays are so disappointing. I was so eager to see a no-weld pressure vessel in orbit and the manufacturing method of the crew #capsule was amazing and original.
It was disappointing when the #alcohol/#LOX RS-88 #thrusters w/ #hypergolic versions.
The #ServiceModule delays were even more outrageous.
And #flammable tape.
It feels like the only #innovation that happened was the pressure vessel.
This is a view of   #NASA’s #SpaceShuttle #Atlantis’ aft section on display in the #AtlantisMuseum, #KSCVC. #Florida with #OMS pods and 3 replica #SSMEs installed.
The three Space Shuttle Main #Engines burned liquid hydrogen #LH2 and liquid oxygen #LOX stored in the External Tank to push the #Shuttle into #orbit.
The OMS helped the #Orbiter enter its final, intended orbit and carry out its mission.
OMS and the #RCS were both fueled by toxic, but #storable #hypergolic propellants ( #MMH and #N204). These components had to be #decontaminated before displaying them.
