Went up to the snow today at #MtStGwinear which is not far from #BawBaw but closer drive and free (but with a food van in the season, so nice hot jam donut & hot chocolate πŸ˜‹) and we've stopped in at #ThomsonDam on our way home (very small detour).

It seemed much lower than last time I visited & posted about it when the dam was spilling, so I looked up the level... It's at 72.7% at the moment. I then looked up the other dams.. Thomson Dam is overwhelmingly the biggest water storage in #Victoria but mostly goes to #Melbourne.

Then I looked up the history... I think pictures speak louder than words here.

So I'm wondering... how much damage do dams do to the #hydrologic cycles in their regions? Are dams contributory to reducing rainfall long term, or is other destruction of the existing biomass in the region or overall climate change responsible? Or is the rare filling of the dam simply due to the ever increasing population of #Naarm? #ClimateChange #dams #environment #Gippsland
