Just finished #HuntForRedOctober
It’s the first book I’ve read where I liked the movie plot more. The choices made in the movie around Jack Ryan’s role in the plot are far more appealing than in the book.
Of course the book adds more detail in interesting places, and definitely ends on a much more exciting note!
The two are so different it was like reading two stories only barely together in the same universe. That made it exciting.
Unlike, say, Davinci Code. Which is identical to the movie with the tiniest of exceptions and just a couple added scenes.

I assume budgetary constraints forced New York to look like some drab communist state factory city in the rain. 🤷♂️
The biggest drawback was the whiney leads Broderick and Pitillo and their strained romance. 😖
Other than that, I quite enjoyed this rewatch. 🙂

Vertraute Gesichter (Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, James Earl Jones, Sam Neil, Tim Curry, ...), eine Weltordnung, in der man noch gut und böse voneinander unterscheiden konnte, epische Musik von Basil Polidouris, kantige Autos und praktische Effekte anstelle von CGI. Dazu die schmeichelnde "smart-analyst-saves-the-world"-story. Hach.
Hayley/Dragon🏳️⚧️Red October is such a classic movie.

A carefully plotted slow burn thriller, The Hunt For Red October relies on politics and the threat of what could happen for its tension over high action sequences. I would strongly argue that it’s to its benefit. The first John Clancy film adaptation relies on its remarkable cast to sell the proceedings of a new Russian submarine being piloted to the US and the young CIA analyst – Jack Ryan, of course – who thinks that its captain, Marko Ramius (Sean Connery), is seeking to defect. And what a cast it is. Connery and Alec Baldwin are your lead stars
