Why are women and children in India becoming more anaemic?

The World Health Assembly endorsed a comprehensive implementation plan for maternal, infant and young children nutrition in 2012, fixing a 50 per cent reduction in anaemia in women of reproductive age by 2025. Anaemia has been widely prevalent in countries in South Asia, especially in India and Central and West Africa. In 2018, the government of India launched the Anaemia Free India programme to eliminate anaemia in the country.
