Part 1: 5 days into #weekwithoutdriving and I've barely posted about it. Its been a crazy week. Catching up on my reflections.
Tuesday: I decided to walk to work. I'm lucky that I'm very close to work. It was a 30 minute walk along very busy city streets. Loud, exhaust, ducking over grown bushes, multiple houseless camps. But also feels good to walk, say hi to people, see parts of the city that are obscured by driving. Felt refreshed, a bit sweaty but all good.
Took the bus back home. Eureka #transit runs one-way loops which are really frustrating. It would take me at least an hour to get to work on the bus, but the ride back took 10 minutes, and that was long because of traffic. Its been a while since I commuted on the bus. I miss it.
New issue of the #TheLWord is out.
TODAY! North Coast Two-Spirit conference at Azelea Hall in McKinleyville from 10-4 on Sunday October 1. There's a keynote by Harlan Pruden (First Nations Cree), co-founder of the Two-Spirit Dry Lab; a workshop with Jason Hockaday (Karuk) who researches songs, language, and stories; presentation of the results of a survey of local Queer Native youth; and a panel of local two-spirit people facilitated by Jasmine Pedrosa. The community is welcome to this free event.
A Free Pass to California State Parks at #humboldtcounty #humboldtca Libraries! Check it Out Like a Book, for Up to 2 Weeks!
Planning a family vacation, a hike with friends, or just in need of a quiet day in a wonderful place outdoors? Now you can check out a free pass for day-use at any of 200 participating California State Parks. The pass can be checked out for up to 2 weeks, and you can visit as many parks as you like. Then return the pass for others to use. Check one out like a book, any time it has 'check shelf' status. Or place a hold on a pass if it's checked out to someone else and you want to be in line for it. Find it by title in the library catalog, as 'California State Library Parks Pass'. Ask about a small pack of nature guides at the desk to check out with it if you like.
