#writerscoffeeclub Oct 10. Have you written a likable antagonist?

Oh, absolutely! In my forth book of my mainstream #Science_Fiction, #The_Caged, a human trafficking story, it was required. The reader needed to understand why the MC protagonist falls in love with the MC antagonists. You could say from the reader's view point it was a hate-love relationship. 😅 What the reader realizes is that not only does Nonna love him, but he loves her, even if it is wrong. Don't get me wrong, he both lavished her and treats her badly, but it is all he understands as a people manipulator. Robert Polonius is one of the complex characters I had to write, I both hated and liked him, because I love Nonna. She is one of my most loved characters.

#pennedpossibilities 797 — MC POV: Describe your favorite art piece (or photograph, if they exist).

She walked over to the bar and pressed the call button. While she waited, she went back to the painting on the wall that was nothing but yellow flowers. She looked at it closely. The paint was old and cracked where it was thick on the canvas. Only the artist’s brush strokes of the yellow flowers were present. No marks, letters or anything to mark who painted it. She continued to scrutinize it.
Behind her, the door quietly swung open, and the soft baritone voice of Mr. Polonius asked, “You like Vincent Van Gogh’s, A Field of Yellow Flowers?”
Nonna spun around quickly to face him, feeling like she had been caught doing something wrong. She saw him smiling at her. His eyes looked her up and down. His smile broadened, and he repeated his first question to her. She turned back around and looked at the painting again.
She heard him walking across the room to stand behind her. She craned her neck back and looked up at him when he stood directly behind her. She answered, “Yes, it is very pretty. But it is cracked.”
He looked down on her small smooth face. “It is very, very old, sweetheart. Very old indeed.”
“How old? Older than you?”
He laughed and knelt down to be on her level. He answered, “It is more than five hundred years old.”
“So older than you?”
“Yes sweetheart, much older.”
“Oh,” was her simple response.
