On an Android:
You can insert gifs by going to your emoji icon (next to the space bar). Along the bottom, you will see "gif". Choose that. [See image below for an example.]

Then you can search for a gif. When you find one you want to insert, just tap it once. You might not see it, because it might be hidden behind the gif examples in your search. Don't worry.

The gif examples will not go away until you tap on your phone's "back" button. Once you do, you should see your gif.

I'm told there are other ways to do it, but this is the one I know best.

(Also, don't forget to use hashtags, so people can find your posts. There is no algorithm here, like there is on Twitter, to push things into your feed.)

Learning something new about Masto every day. Sorry to those who already know most of this, but a lot people are new here like me, and if this helps them even a bit to have a nice experience here, I think it's a good thing to post about it.
The thing I learned today was that people who don't want to take the time to click on CW marked posts can choose to "always show media" instead in the preferences. #HowToToot ^^

how do you create a group (these accounts that automatically reboot when you ping them),

what are the advantages of doing so (let's say, compare to using subject hashtags in your toots?)

@DDave you can hashtag a key word in whatever you "toot" (intentionally silly name) or put the hashtag words after whatever you type. The only way to search what people are posting are hashtags.
