This comic is about something that I still think about daily. While walking through my local streets, I passed the broken doorway he used to call home.

To this day I don’t know where he ended up, but I do hope he found justice. No one should be houseless, and ultimately as a society we need a better system to prevent it; But imprisonment is not the answer. People deserve help regardless of legal status.

🧊 is bad, and Imprisonment is never the answer to a systemic issue. It just perpetuates and further breaks an already broken system.

Although I don’t know his name, I knew he didn’t deserve this.

Rents will rise and homelessness quadruple in a decade unless serious steps to cut emissions are taken, University of Sydney researchers find.

Global heating could worsen housing affordability, push up rents and quadruple homelessness in a decade without fairer housing policies and action to reduce emissions, new research has found.

Home prices and rents in Australia are influenced by a complex mix of factors, from incomes and mortgage rates to insurance premiums, available land and population.

University of Sydney researchers modelled the housing market system, using two decades of public data, and tested its response under different climate scenarios, publishing their results in Cities.

They found climate change affected housing and rental affordability under both high and low-emission scenarios, but vulnerable households were worst-hit under a fossil-fuelled future.

Support the North #Portland (#PDX) Drop-In Center

*This petition is for current residents, business owners, and workers of #StJohns*

This is a counter petition to the one currently circulating in the St. Johns community seeking to close the Drop-In Center, established to provide services to the #houseless community.

We feel this is a critical resource for our houseless community members. We strongly feel that the problems being projected in local media can best be served by the community through education, de-escalation training, a more robust mutual aid network, and an increase of community involvement with the houseless community.

The Drop-In Center primarily provides services for our houseless community members in St. Johns who would not otherwise have access to these services. Services do not require a referral and include:

Case management from peer providers who can connect clients with longer-term services. That could include helping clients obtain necessary documents for #housing, #healthcare, providing referrals to community partners and behavioral #health support services, connecting clients with government benefits, and more.
#Housing navigation assistance, including identifying and eliminating barriers to housing, assistance with applications and fees, and other support services.
#Hygiene services, including laundry and showers, with access to travel-size toiletries as available.
Limited #meals offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, in addition to pantry items and hot and cold beverages.
Mailing address services. People will be able to sign up to have mail delivered to the day center; not having a stable mailing address can be a key barrier to people seeking housing.

The problems attributed to the Center in local media would be greatly exacerbated if it was closed. We understand this is not the solution to #houselessness, which would be a housing first policy, but a lifeline for those who have nowhere else to turn.

Imminent housing loss - looking for ideas, resources, offers to help.

My spouse is trying to help a friend from the COVID-conscious community who's about to lose housing for herself and her small emotional support dog. She's run out of time at a shelter in Bergen County, NJ.

She needs a place to park an unregistered car (she was hoping to live out of) and a safe place to land with her dog. She's open to relocating to MA, NY, PA, VT (places spouse has people), but's aware rents are high there.
