Lowyat.NETNon-eSIM expanding to more regions: ew. I'm often down for these digitalisation
of things, but as long as eSIMs aren't self-portable/transferable without a third-party (i.e. telco) needed, I don't want it.
Imagine your phone broke for wtv reason, and instead of being able to easily swap ur physical SIM to a secondary/backup phone, you instead need to go to your telco and request for a replacement eSIM.. that's awful.
For now, I'm only reserving using eSIMs only for disposable
travel eSIMs, and leave my main SIM physical. That's the best for now.
---
Update:
Apparently, among the common telcos in Malaysia, maybe only #CelcomDiGi still requires going in-store to register for an eSIM?
Meanwhile others like #Maxis (
#Hotlink) and
#Umobile, you can register for a new eSIM, or convert from a physical SIM to an eSIM, online through their mobile app.
Not sure though what it would look like if you switch phones, but I reckon those can be done online too. Fucking DiGi, man :))
