I just thinned the new shoots on one of min humle. Supposedly, one can cook and eat the new shoots like asparges.
I'll find out tonight. ๐ฌ

I got a hop plant๐คฉ
Not exactly sure what I will do with it yet, but a friend gave it to us, so I will figure something out ๐ค
Since I wonโt be brewing anytime soon, I will look into other options beyond hop tempura๐ค
My hop plants are telling me I better get off me arse and go get some support poles.
I can't believe how fast this Crystal hop plant is growing. It's well ahead of the Santiam and Mt. Hood plants. (I planted them all last spring.)
Iโm doing a disinfection boil on my brew system in preparation for the brew day. Hopefully my brother will visit and help out with the brewing. Todayโs brew will be a smash lager with Swedish malt and a recently rediscovered Swedish hop variety.
It wonโt be a regular lager, but Iโm hoping it will be tasty at least.
1.4kg wet Perle hops becomes 315g dried. Vacuum packed and going into the freezer. Destined for Helles, a Dortmunder Export and maybe a Scwharzbier and/or a Rauchbier.
Harvested my hops this weekend. Gladly got nearly a bucket full out of it again, after the plants needed some recovery from the neighbour spraying weed killer along the fence line a couple of years ago. My 'Fuggle' (the variety) smells wonderful!
Should have harvested a week earlier, though ...
1.4kg of Perle hops. Drying these is more of a challenge. I really need to make some screened frames.
I have a jar full of hops that I picked and didn't properly dry so they got slightly moldy and not suitable for consumption. But they have seeds! So I want to sprout them. I put them in in potting soil, and then I read on the internet that they need cold stratification. Is this true? I grew hops from seed a few years ago and didn't do anything actively to give them a cold treatment, but it's possible I picked the hops late.
So usually herbal salves are a cream / beeswax colour, but these Hรผll-Melon hops make everything suuuuuuper green. This is only 1/5 hops oil!
