Sir did a “hoof care” session with this horse: front hoofs got painted in the same golden color as Their fingers; esp shiny against the copper accent of the horseshoes! First time getting nail painted as an adult: feeling very pampered and cared for. #ponyplay #hoofcare #lgbtq+ #kink #Chicago

Glushu modifications for a laminitic horse: Using a Glushu back to front + shortening/grinding the shanks to create an open-toe shoe for toe area relief. Soft DIM+mesh added in the heels so the caudal parts receive some more support. Usually, the Glushu is applied by using Metacrylate or similiar glueing compunds. However, a slightly more gap filling Cyanacrylate does the job just as well, with the benefit of not compromising horn structures and staying rather cool 😉 (and it's less expensive, too).

Top left to bottom right (4 months time span): I like it when a hoof starts "opening up" in the caudal part, allowing for more cushion & support. #hoof #horse #hoofcare
End of week=inventory time. Seems like my new helper needs a bit of training, but he's a keen little chap. #hoofcare #Bestofhoofcarekitties #cat
Green: End of toe or heel, respectively
Blue: COR= Centre of Rotation (of the digital joint)
Red: breakover

Ideally, distances a and b should be equal , approximately, or a should not exceed b lengthwise. Leverage becomes greater the more distance a exceeds distance b, and the more breakover slides forward (regarding direction of movement) resulting in increased stress on joints, tendons and ligaments. Furthermore, the heels will not be able to support the suspensory apparatus in a good way anymore. In this case, the horse received glue-ons for the first time today. Unfortunately, all of the walls had already been thinned by rasping, so I did not want to thin them out further for now. By trimming only, the heels could not be set back far enough today (not enough wall height, sole thickness and concavity). #horse #hoof #hoofcare #farrier #horseshoe

Grün: Endpunkte Zehe bzw. Trachte
Blau: COR= Centre of Rotation=Drehpunkt des Hufgelenks
Rot: Abrollpunkt Richtung Zehe

This is a composite open-toe shoe paired with soft DIM cushion which I used for a laminitis case. Correct shaping/finishing of the shoe and correct placement of the shoe & cushion are absolutely crucial with almost no margin for error, and have to be done according to x-rays. Laminitic horses really do suffer, the treatment is costly and takes lots of effort (and there is no guarantee a horse will survive it, btw!), so it is always a good idea to do everything possible to prevent a horse from becoming laminitic! Also keep in mind, what we see in the hooves of laminitic horses are symptoms of either poisoning or metabolic crisis. The hooves are not the cause/origin of this ailment! #hoof #hoofcare #farrier #horseshoe #laminitis #horse #Hufpflege #Huf #Hufrehe #Hufbeschlag
