Condannata a 24 anni e tre mesi. È arrivata la sentenza su Chiara Petrolini, la 22enne di Traversetolo a processo per gli omicidi dei due neonati partoriti il 12 maggio 2023 e il 7 agosto 2024 e poi sepolti nel giardino di casa. Lo ha deciso dopo poco più di tre ore di camera di consiglio, la Corte di assise di Parma, presieduta dal giudice Alessandro Conti
L’imputata è stata assolta dall’omicidio del primogenito. I giudici hanno anche riqualificato una delle due soppressioni di cadavere, quella relativa al secondo figlio, nel meno grave reato di occultamento di cadavere. Anche il gip di Parma che a settembre 2024 aveva disposto i domiciliari aveva aderito a questa tesi.
La procura di Parma aveva chiesto una condanna a 26 anni: non era stato chiesto l’ergastolo perché i pm hanno considerato attenuanti generiche la giovane età e “l’immaturità”. LLa procura riteneva la giovane responsabile di tutti i reati contestati: due omicidi volontari premeditati e due episodi di soppressione di cadavere. Ai neonati fu tagliato il cordone ombelicale, morirono per shock emorragico e furono nascosti sotto uno strato di terra.
Lo scorso mese, in udienza, la giovane imputata ha reso dichiarazioni spontanee davanti ai giudici. Intervenendo per circa 7 minuti ha respinto l’immagine di sé emersa nel racconto pubblico della vicenda: “Sono stata anche descritta come un’assassina, come una madre che uccide i suoi figli, ma non sono questo. Io non ho mai voluto fare del male ai miei bambini”, ha affermato davanti alla Corte. Poi ha aggiunto: “Quei bambini erano parte di me, non gli avrei mai fatto del male, è una sofferenza che distrugge dentro”.
La perizia psichiatrica disposta dalla Corte d’Assise ha concluso che Chiara Petrolini era pienamente capace di intendere e di volere anche se descritta come una persona immatura e fragile: “È diventata spregiudicata con le gravidanze. Sembra guidata da un computer, segue un suo disegno, che è difficile da capire e intuire, ma c’è una continuità, nulla si contraddice”. Una persona “senza emozioni, fredda, glaciale”, ha dichiarato Domenico Berardi, uno dei consulenti psichiatrici dell’accusa.

The sentence was handed down for Chiara Petrolini, the 22-year-old from Traversetolo who was on trial for the murders of the two newborns born on May 12, 2023 and August 7, 2024, and then buried in her garden. The Parma prosecutor had requested a sentence of 26 years: life imprisonment was not sought because the public prosecutors considered the young woman’s age and “immaturity” to be mitigating circumstances. The prosecutor believed the young woman was responsible for all the charges: two premeditated voluntary murders and two episodes of death concealment. The newborns had their umbilical cords cut, died from hemorrhagic shock, and were hidden under a layer of earth.
Last month, during a hearing, the young accused made spontaneous statements to the judges. Speaking for about 7 minutes, she rejected the image of herself that emerged from the public telling of the case: “I have also been described as a murderer, as a mother who kills her children, but I am not that. I never wanted to harm my children,” she stated before the court. Then she added: “Those children were part of me, I would never have harmed them; it is a suffering that destroys from within.”
The psychiatric examination ordered by the Court of Assize concluded that Chiara Petrolini was fully capable of understanding and willing, although described as an immature and fragile person: “She became ruthless with pregnancies. It seems she is guided by a computer, follows her own plan, which is difficult to understand and intuit, but there is continuity, nothing contradicts.” A person “without emotions, cold, and glacial,” stated Domenico Berardi, one of the forensic psychiatrists for the prosecution.
