We did find St Edith's Well in the end ...and I haven't seen one quite like this before ... but, believe me, we had to battle through some foliage and then there was an iron grate in front of it ... so I couldn't strip off and immerse myself in the water 🤪

Went out looking for #Holywells #springs and #standingstones today ... spent a lot of time climbing gates, puzzling over the OS map, and getting lost in foliage. I do have some pictures of the actual things we found, but not downloaded from the camera yet. My friend, Sara, sent me this pic, and it kind of sums up our adventure 🤣

I swear I had planned the next video to be a proper mapping video, but here we go again with #Wikidata. The project did involve mapping on #OpenStreetMap, though. And just in time for #Bealtaine. https://youtu.be/OV4aL2PdjIc?is=XGovVVguGMQ_A2g-

Working on adding holy wells and holy well sites to #wikidata to be able to generate a map of Ireland with only the wells named after female saints. Very slow going, but patterns seem to emerge. Counties Kilkenny, Laois and Carlow finished, working on Wexford now. Look at that diversity where the Normans landed first! Brown is St Catherine, purple St Anne, red St Brigid, turquoise St Margaret, golden St Helen (Helena Augusta), dark blue Mary (pure coincidence). #opendata #HolyWells

Another place we visited on our recent trip was the beautiful church in Whitstone. We first visited this over 20 years ago, so it was wonderful to see St Anne's holy well again, with the small stone in the back which is believed to have been carved to depict the goddess Anu.
