Love this font used for the boys entrance of the 1908 Holmlea Public School on the Southside of Glasgow. This is just one of the surprising variety of different fonts used on Glasgow's Victorian and Edwardian public school.

These are the girls entrance (left) and the boys entrance (right) of the 1908 former Holmlea Public School on the Southside of Glasgow. Such separate entrance were the norm for Victorian and Edwardian schools. However, in many cases, the boys entrance was the grander one on the front of the school, while the girls entrance was more functional and is tucked around the side. In the Holmea public school, they are the other way round.

Another example of the variety of decorations which can be found on Glasgow tenements. This cute litte guy is on Garry Street of the Southside of Glasgow. Other tenements in this part of the city feature different decorations, including fruit, leaves, dragons, a May queen (possibly) and sea monsters.

The variations in decorative elements on Glasgow's tenements never ceases to amaze me. Take, for example, this dragon on a bay window. It's one of a number of similar creatures decorating a block of tenements on Holmlea Road on the southside of the city.
